Mr.Smith, an Englishman, had a little son whose name was Bob. Bob was only five. He was fond of playing toys.
One day Mr Smith said to him, “Look here, Bob! Tomorrow I’ll have a day off and I am going to make a toy elephant for you.”
On Sunday Bob asked, “Dad! You have promised to make a toy elephant for me. Will you give it to me, please, now?”
“Oh, Sonny! I am sorry I have forgotten my promise. But next Sunday I’ll make you a toy elephant and a toy lion for you.”
“Oh, isn’t it too bad... I do want a new toy so much now! Maybe we’ll go to a toy shop and buy any new toy for me now?”
“Sorry I can’t do it now, I’m busy. You’ll get your toys next week.”
But the next week Mr Smith was busy again and didn’t have time to make the toys.
Bob counted the days. On Sunday he asked his father, “Well, Father, where are the toy elephant and the toy lion that you have promised to make for me? Do you remember it?”
“Oh, Sonny, I have been too busy this week! I’ll make a toy elephant, a toy lion and a toy crocodile for you next week.”
“Please don’t. No more tomorrows. I think I’ll make a new toy myself today. Better an egg today than a hen tomorrow.”
