There are four seasons in the year: winter, spring, summer and autumn. December, January and February are winter months. Winter in Russia is usually cold. It often snows. Days are short and nights are long.
March, April and May are spring months. The sun shines more brightly than in winter months. Days become longer and nights shorter. The weather is warm. Trees and flowers come out. Birds return from the South and make their nests.
June, July and August are summer months. It is still warmer and sometimes it’s very hot. You can see green trees and beautiful flowers everywhere. Pupils have a lot of free time, because they have their summer holidays. The longest day and the shortest night is on the 21st - 22nd of June. In summer people spend much time in the open air: they go to the forest, swim in the river, and play different games on the glade. You can see many berries in the forest, such as raspberries, strawberries and red bilberries. July is the hottest month of summer. August is cooler than July, but there are many mushrooms in the forest in August.
September, October and November are autumn months. It is also a very beautiful time of the year, when leaves change their colour from green to yellow. Days are shorter and nights longer. The weather is cool and rainy.
